There is a gravitational pull to our secular Xmas traditions that Christians ought to resist. Yes, put up the tree, bake the cookies, leave the nativity scene packed up in the attic, and feast...but don't be so silly and distracted as to miss the greatest joy of the season: the birth of the Savior of the World.

We seem to take most opportunities to sprinkle our boasts into our conversations. We boast about our successes, failures, proximity to famous people, experiences, travels, and even breakfast cereal. Our boast should be in the Lord, the Cross, and our weaknesses. 

Today's "influencers" don't like Christian morality, so they posit the idea that Christ never existed. We take on that theory and debunk it.

Bitterness reigning in your heart? Rivalry? Envy? Anger? Sadness? Fight it by giving thanks to God in and for all things.
"And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father..." (Eph. 5:18-20)."...in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." (1 Thess. 5:18).

Beards are popular for the moment, especially in Reformed churches. What gives? "Growing a beard," said Charles Spurgeon, "is a habit most natural, Scriptural, manly and beneficial." We generally agree but outward symbols can mask ugly inward realities. Beards proclaim masculinity, but some use them to obscure effeminacy.
